DIY Crochet : Easy Cozy Mug Cover

Welcome to this tutorial on how to make a beautiful crochet mug cozy!

Why should you embark on this project? Because not only is it aesthetic (with yarn enveloping ceramic), but it's also practical (goodbye burns from hot coffee) and, most importantly, it's very easy to make (just a simple rectangle and an attachment)!

Blue Cozy Mug Crochet

We will tackle an extremely simple pattern, using a basic double crochet stitch, perfect for beginners. Once you master this pattern, you can venture into more complex stitches like this one.  👇

The goal is to create a rectangle of double crochets adjusted to the size of your mug. The size of your rectangle is determined by the width and height of the mug. So, keep your favorite mug handy to take all the necessary measurements.

To keep this rectangle around your mug, I've opted for a chain connecting the two bottom edges, then a button on one side at the top with a loop on the other side, still in chain stitch. In short, nothing could be simpler.

Materials:

  • Yarn or cotton of your choice
  • Large Button (handmade buttons work wonderfully for mug cozies)
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn

Instructions (American crochet terminology):

  • Make a chain of the width of the bottom of your mug (under the handle).
  • Crochet the number of rows of double crochets corresponding to the desired height. Attention! For the height, be sure not to crochet too close to the edge, leave room to place your lips on your mug without touching the yarn, as it could be unpleasant when sipping your coffee.

  • To move to the next row, make a chain of 3 stitches.

  • When the desired height is reached, single crochet around the edges of your rectangle.
  • Next, sew the button on the top left.
  • Create a chain loop on the top right, the size needed to pass your button through.
  • Make a chain at the bottom of your work, connecting the two sides so that the mug fits snugly into your cozy: a few chains depending on the size of your mug.
